Four Concordia crew members and Costa’s land-based crisis coordinator were allowed to plea bargain. An emergency generator failed after the crash, and water-tight compartment doors also didn’t work properly. Survivors also said they weren’t given emergency drills after they started what was supposed to be a weeklong Mediterranean cruise. A modern mega-ship slammed into a rock then began to sink on the evening of Friday the 13th. In May a different judge in pretrial hearings rejected Schettino's first bid for a plea bargain after the prosecution opposed it. But deals have been approved for five other defendants including the helmsman and other ship officers who were on the bridge of the ship with Schettino when it rammed the reef. The five included an official of the Italian cruise company Costa Crociere who was managing the crisis on land.
